John Anton of the Token Lounge

Posted by Nothin' but Music film crew on August 2, 2012 at 10:45 PM Comments comments (2)

Greetings All,

We recently did an interview with the owner of the Token Lounge in Westland, Mi., John Anton. We had a rather lively discussion with him about his 20--plus years in the music venue business. He offered some great insight from the nightclub and booking perspective concerning the ups and downs of staying afloat in the music game. Anton also threw in some funny anecdotes and amusing stories that could only come from someone of his veteran status. We appreciated him taking the time to talk to us and you will too when you see our upcoming film. We are coming into the home stretch with production and have some great content and surprises in store. Thanks for reading and always feel free to drop us your questions or comments. All the best, Eric & Lisa, NbM

Around the world and down the block with Howard

Hello All, It's been a while since we posted a "Nothin' but Music" update. But we have been busy editing and completing some production as well. A case in point is this past Sunday where we caught Howard Glazer and Harmonica Shah at the historic Detroit jazz club Cliff Bell's for a set or two. This duet is the real deal when it comes to traditional blues. And then the next day we followed Howard to Detroit Metro Airport for a send-off to his playing the Kaavi Blues Festival in Finland. While we're on a roll we should also mention that Benny and the Jets recently performed in Toledo, Ohio for a special event and the Toledo Free Press did a really nice write-up on him and made mention of NbM!!! We thank you for your time and attention and we will be in touch with more updates soon. Cheers!--Eric & Lisa, NbM

We followed Benny around and about the downtown Detroit area yesterday dropping by some famed media establishments to spread some Holiday/Christmas cheer and see if we could get some scribes from Metro Times, Detroit News/Free Press and WDIV Local 4 to discuss the current state of the arts and live music in Detroit and beyond. We were pleasantly surprised and got some takers. And we'll have the details for you in the upcoming doc "Nothin' but Music," slated for sometime in 2012!

Hey Everybody,

The creators of "Nothin but Music" Lisa and myself were on the "Detroit BLues Party" program on www.udetroit.com this past Monday Nov. 14th. The show airs "live" Monday nights between 10pm-midnight. Howard Glazer and Mr. White are co-hosts and they interviewed us about the upcoming documentary that features Howard as one of our prime subjects. We are at the beginning of the program which also features live musical performances by Howard, with bassist Daryll Lee and drummer RJ Spangler, and guitarist Billy Davis who was in Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and also worked with Jimi Hendrix! You can check out the program on a podcast at the UDetroit website. Cheers and Happy Holidays All!--Eric

NbM is back in production after a brief hiatus and we had the pleasure of interviewing Downriver-based singer-songwriter Nate Jones. Jones is a Detroit area musician that writes his own music as well as gigs regularly at Potbelly Sandwich shops and many other venues around the region. He offered a lot of enlightening and personal insight into the ups and downs of the modern music profession and we'll have it for you here, as well as select clips of his live show, in our documentary. Stay tuned folks and thanks for checking in!

Big Fun in Nashville

Hello All,

The NbM film crew had some big fun a recent weekend in Nashville, Tn. with one of the stars of our film, Howard Glazer. We made a whirlwind trip to attend the annual NAMM ( North American Music Merchants) show in downtown Nashville. Howard is having a guitar custom built for him by Delaney Guitars and we wanted to cover all the happenings surrounding that and just taking in as much as we could of what "Nash Vegas" ( as some call it) has to offer. We also caught the Don Kelley Band at Robert's on the strip. One of the best club bands we've ever seen!!!! Stay tuned for more as production continues to roll on. We love ya and thanks for checking us out! Peace!

Zonjic in the Park

What a lovely night for Alexander Zonjic and Friends at City Hall Park in Dearborn, Michigan. AZ is a featured artist in "Nothin' but Music" and his sweet sounds thrilled the hundreds in the park who were there to groove to his sound.  Of course, all caught by the "Nothin' but Music" film crew. Heard some Bob James classics (AZ toured with Bob James) and tunes from Alexander Zonjic's own CD "Doin' the D" as well as others.

 Greetings All,

We recently had a great time hanging with Benny, his wife Pam and, what seemed like, a cast of thousands at the Redford Grill after Benny's weekly Thursday night gig at the Redford Moose. When you party with Benny and his crew it's an all night/early morning event. And we'll have some after hours hijinx for you here in "Nothin' but Music." Stay tuned everyone!

A Day in the Life with Benny

Hey Kids,

We spent a good portion of the day and evening with Benny this past week as he prepared for and played two gigs in the same day--his weekly Thursday night Redford Moose and a concert in the park in Oxford, Michigan. Hustling to the show, setting up, playing the show, trying to engage the crowd, tearing down and on to the next! Backed on the Oxford show by the mighty George Bros. band we got some great clips. And we'll have it all for you in our upcoming documentary extravaganza "Nothin' but Music." Thanks for reading this and peace!

Hanging With Howard at Hewitt's

Posted by Nothin' but Music film crew on June 9, 2011 at 6:53 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey Folks,

We were hanging with guitarist Howard Glazer at the renowned Detroit area music store Hewitt's Music in Dearborn, Michigan as he picked up one of his prized axes--a beautiful red Gibson SG that was in for some repairs. While we were there Howard took us down memory lane recounting his earliest days as a musician and guitar teacher at the famed store. We also met with store owner Phil Hewitt who gave us a little history lesson about the legendary shop's history which dates back to 1920 when his great grandfather started it! Also of note is the fact that, at one time, both Howard and his woodwind playing father both taught at the store at the same time! There is some family pride there and you will see it in our upcoming film. Thanks for stopping by boys and girls and stay tuned for more fun soon.

Busy with Benny & Jessica!

This past weekend was busy for yours truly as we filmed both Benny and Jessica at different events. Benny took us on a tour of the old Michigan Palace that his dad owned back when it was a rock concert hall.  Now, of course it is used as a parking garage. It was quite an adventure for us and we heard lots of stories about those days in the mid 70s when Benny was a big part of the place.

On Sunday we headed over to the St Mary's Polish Festival after a torrential rain and caught Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas. Love the horns that the Deltas provide. A diverse crowd really enjoyed the music. Jessica belted out the tunes and added a few new ones to their set.
